You might try comp.sys.sun.hardware as I don't think the
folks who run Microsoft, Novell, or Redhat's OS hang out here.

There's a diagnostic partition preinstalled on some of the x64
systems. I assume Sun supports those diagnostics.
Alternatively, Sun should support the diagnostics that you generate
from an OpenSolaris LiveCD.

Good luck.

Having only a few weeks ago bought an Ultra 27, it came with a

"Sun Validation and Test Suite Bootable Diagnostics CD Version 7.0 ps4"

It also has a "Diagnostics Partition" I've since installed OpenSolaris (it had
Solaris 10 on when I got it), but I left the diagnostic partition in tact.

I've not actually tried using the CD yet. Perhaps I should boot it, to see if it
finds any problems. Since buying the machine, I've added 10 GB of RAM and 4.5 TB
of disk space, so there is always a risk of something being amiss.

I'll let you know a bit more about the CD once I've run it. The title, and the
fact it is bootable, would suggest to me that one might not need an OS to get
information about hardware errors.
