Platform Standardization Offers Increased Economies of Scale
Emerson has drawn on the resources of the Sun-Oracle Applications Center
(SOATC) to develop an IT blueprint for its global enterprise resource
planning (ERP) project. The manufacturer ultimately replaced numerous
stand-alone legacy systems with Sun systems running the Oracle E-Business
Suite to provide its worldwide divisions easier shared access to
applications and computing power.
Emerson executives expressed satisfaction at the savings the company
appreciated as a result of the expertise they found in project SunRAMP, the
global ERP and server consolidation project Sun has made available to
companies to reduce the cost of IT infrastructure and application support.
"Discovering Sun's success through project SunRAMP confirmed that Sun
understands what it takes to help Emerson achieve high-level performance
and the fastest time to ROI," Emerson Vice President of IT Shared Services,
Steve Hamby said. "By standardizing our back office platform on Sun
systems, Emerson gains the flexibility and security demanded of complex
business processes like ours, while improving productivity and integration
with customers and suppliers."
