4487 New 24" Flat-Panel LCD Monitor And Sun Fire[TM] Servers
http://sun.systemnews.com/system-news/jobdir/submitted/2001.10.all.w2.html#4487

At the Siggraph Conference, Sun featured a technology
demonstration of the world's first 24" flat-panel LCD monitor and
showcased server-based graphics demonstrations on its new Sun
Fire[TM] servers. Sun's booth also provided Siggraph attendees
with interactive demonstrations, including those from Pixar,
WeatherOne, Kewazinga, and Full Sail, Inc.

4485 Sun Journal Vol. 5, No. 2
http://sun.systemnews.com/system-news/jobdir/submitted/2001.10.all.w2.html#4485

The most recent edition of the Sun Journal discusses the notion
that the concept of a single web may be outdated. The use and
scope of the web are expanding to the point where, it could be
argued, there are as many as six webs, including the traditional
web, an e-commerce web, and an entertainment web.

Features
--------
4463 Challenges Of Server Sprawl
http://sun.systemnews.com/system-news/jobdir/submitted/2001.10.all.w2.html#4463

In a recent column, "ASP Success Strategies," Jeanette Kennedy,
director of ASP Market Development at Sun, discussed the
importance of considering operational efficiencies when ASPs
expand. After the recent boom of "server sprawl" there are now
the challenges of underutilized resources and increased
management complexity. Kennedy addressed how Sun can help
optimize with resource utilization software such as Dynamic
System Domains (DSD) and Dynamic Reconfiguration (DR), Sun[TM]
Management Center software, and Sun[TM] Cluster software.

4491 Sun Donating To Charity
http://sun.systemnews.com/system-news/jobdir/submitted/2001.10.all.w2.html#4491

Sun Microsystems Australia donated StarOffice[TM] software to the
PCs for Kids program in Australia, helping end a public battle
between the charity and Microsoft over the installation of older
operating systems on recycled computers.

4493 Sun[SM] Online Service Center Ranked Number One
http://sun.systemnews.com/system-news/jobdir/submitted/2001.10.all.w2.html#4493

The Sun[SM] Online Service Center has been ranked number one in a
recent comparison of enterprise system vendors by Summit
Strategies. The Sun Online Service Center provides a cohesive,
end-to-end, customer service management experience. Features
include information and software updates, ordering and purchasing
services, and submitting and viewing service tickets.

4494 Sun's Fast Prototype FLEETzero Chip
http://sun.systemnews.com/system-news/jobdir/submitted/2001.10.all.w2.html#4494

The Sun Labs Asynchronous Design Group has been working on
FLEETzero, a prototype chip with raw speed roughly twice that of
today's chips. Where today's chips use synchronous circuits with
a global clock to manage activity, the new, faster FLEETzero chip
uses radical new circuits with low-power asynchronous logic
elements that produce timing signals only where and when needed.

4495 "Core Web Programming," Second Edition
http://sun.systemnews.com/system-news/jobdir/submitted/2001.10.all.w2.html#4495

"Core Web Programming," second edition, by Marty Hall and Larry
Brown, is an authoritative guide to every technology that
enterprise web developers need to master. The book is divided
into four parts: HTML 4, Java[TM] technology platform
programming, server-side programming, and JavaScript[TM].

4496 "Jini[TM], Example By Example"
http://sun.systemnews.com/system-news/jobdir/submitted/2001.10.all.w2.html#4496

"Jini[TM], Example by Example," by W. Keith Edwards and Tom
Rodden, enables programmers to master Jini technology
development. The book shows how to put Jini technology to use in
everyday Java technology development.

http://sun.systemnews.com/system-news/jobdir/submitted/2001.10.all.w2.html#4460

Sun[TM] Service Point Architecture is made up of SunPlex[TM]
systems and Sun Cluster[TM] 3.0 7/01 software. SunPlex systems
are located in the heart of the data center, allowing
organizations to create vertically and horizontally scalable
clusters for both off-the-shelf and custom applications.

4461 Solaris[TM] PDASync
http://sun.systemnews.com/system-news/jobdir/submitted/2001.10.all.w2.html#4461

The Solaris[TM] PDASync synchronizes the Palm Computing Connected
Organizer with Solaris Desktop Tools[TM] productivity
applications. PDASync offers easy management of projects and
schedules, organization, and emails whether at home, in meetings,
or at customer sites.

4462 Free Solaris[SM] Binary License Program
http://sun.systemnews.com/system-news/jobdir/submitted/2001.10.all.w2.html#4462

Now developers can use the Solaris[TM] 8 Operating Environment
(OE) at home or at work without paying a license fee. For just
the cost of media ($45 for the Intel Platform Edition or $75 for
the SPARC[TM] Platform Edition) plus shipping, users can utilize
the software on an unlimited number of computers with a capacity
of eight or fewer CPUs. This is a price savings of forty percent.
The Solaris 8 OE software can also be downloaded free from Sun's
web site.

The Netra[TM] T1 server was designed to satisfy customers who
want SPARC[TM] and/or Solaris[TM] Operating Environment (OE)
reliability in a low cost, thin, rackable, ruggedized,
one-processor package. The Netra T1 AC200 server is particularly
well suited for service providers and other customers requiring a
rack based computing platform that offers high processor density,
a small footprint, and an increased level of ruggedness. The
product is also designed to satisfy customers facing significant
infrastructure issues such as space limitations, horizontal
scalability, remote manageability, and ease of deployment.

4473 Sun Standard Cluster Configurations Renamed
http://sun.systemnews.com/system-news/jobdir/submitted/2001.10.all.w2.html#4473

Sun[TM] Standard Cluster Configurations are now renamed "Sun[TM]
Cluster Platforms"--a family of products from the SunTone[TM]
Platforms portfolio. Sun Standard Cluster Configuration E1 has
now been renamed Sun Cluster Platform 4500/3. Sun Cluster
Platforms are integrated hardware and software products that are
built, configured and tested before shipment and shipped as a
single "Cluster-in-a-Rack" to the customer. Sun Cluster Platform
4500/3 is a midrange high availability platform designed for
customers who need a reliable, quick-to-deploy, and
easy-to-manage clustered system that provides failover
protection, reliable load balancing, and continuous application
access.

4476 Sun Ray[TM] Server Bundle
http://sun.systemnews.com/system-news/jobdir/submitted/2001.10.all.w2.html#4476

The Sun Ray[TM] appliance is an ideal desktop for EDA users to
access compute farm resources. The benefits are application
availability, increased productivity, reduced system
administration, greater data/process integrity, and lower cost.
The Sun Ray server bundles are designed for users in the EDA
market. Included in these EDA server bundles are a high
