I need the partition and disk_type entries to be placed in /etc/format.dat
for a new disc to be attached to my SCSI card on my Ultar10/Solaris8,
Seagate 18.4GB/15,000rpm Ultra 160 SCSI Cheetah X15 #ST318451LW
Seagate tech support tried to be helpful by giving me several reference
links, but none of which had this info.

Thanks.

Lester

You shouldn't need an /etc/format.dat entry to add a SCSI disk. The
Solaris format command is capable of determining how big a SCSI disk is
without any "hints" from /etc/format.dat.

Hi!

You could find a link to a format.dat here:
http://www.sunhelp.org/pages.php?page=info-misc
I havn't checked if your drive is listed.

Lester,

If you have trouble getting the format.dat
Let me know. I have a copy of PTI SCSI tools 32 Demo
It will create a Sun Label and a format.dat entry for you.

Hi,

Will that PTI SCSI tools utility work for an Iomega JAZ drive too?
I have been trying to get my external 1GB JAZ drive to work with my
Sparcstation 20 running Solaris 7, with no luck. I have tried all the
format.dat entries that I got from sunhelp.org, and elsewhere, but none
work.

Thanks!
Dana

Hi Justin,

Here is the link for the demo.
http://scsitools.com/
I have not tried it on a removable drive.
After you install. Look for Workststion Prep.

Good Luck,

Bill Kittle
