Several days ago, syslog messages began appearing on our SIMS 4.0
mail host:
SUNWmail.ims.ims_master[23166]: read_from_mta_thr exiting: casino_get failed
After awhile the MTA wasn't delivering new mail to IMAP or POP3 clients.
The IMTA log also had messages like these for one of the mailboxes:
sims-ms-daemon cannot allocate large enough mmap_buffer
'im.server stop' scripts hung and couldn't shutdown the IMS processes;
'kill -HUP' was necessary and 'imcheck -c' necessary afterwards.
Inspection of the MTA queues revealed a 35MB message, which had been
bounced by the receiving MTA as too large. 'imta qm delete [msg no]'
fixed the problem.
There were no other diagnostic messages, mails to root or postmaster,
or any other warnings about the problem.
Does anyone know how iPlanet IMS5.2 or later would behave in this
circumstance? I don't have much RAM on this box and suspect that
swap is irrelevant regarding mmap() in this case but don't know.
Is this really a SIMS quota issue?
Regards,
Michael
