Since I upgraded from Solaris 2.5 to 2.6 on my Sun_LX, 40MB Ram ...

1- Remote launched (set ... DISPLAY.back.here) netscape 3.x, 4.x
2- Local launched netscape 4.02 and 4.04 .. ALL

Load a page .. even the good html from Netscape.Com and All I see are
some image files, and the Blue_________ beneath the links ..

At the bottom of the page .. when I move mouse over links .. I see
the name of the link displayed at bottom .. Either the text is gone
or it has become the same color as the cell or page BG_Color ..

Sol 2.5 to Sol 2.6 was using "Upgrade" in the install .. I tried
changing in the Netscape Fonts and colors any param that looked like
a candidate for changing text color appearance .. NO LUCK..

Sure would appreciate some ideas .. video (dmesg) is cgsix0: screen
1280x1024, single buffered, 2M mappable, rev 8

I REALLY NEED A CLUE .,. thanks .. truly clueless /Ev/

I've been seeing this as well. It looks like the font renderer is
generating the fonts with no pixels set in them. You can mark a
selection and paste it into another buffer, so the text is there, the
font is just rendered invisibly. With Netscape, I've had success by
changing the default font in the Preferences dialog, or sometimes just
changing the font encoding under the View menu. It's easy to duplicate
the problem by changing the encoding. Eventually, you'll stumble on an
encoding that results in a page full of invisible text.

With a couple of pages, nothing I could do would result in a font that
got rendered correctly. I've seen the problem under both Solaris/x86
and Solaris/Sparc, version 2.6.

HiEverett,

You need to set :-

xset +fp /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/
xset fp rehash

Note that you can do this globally for all users by
creating an executable /bin/ksh script named

/etc/dt/config/Xsession.d/0015.sun.env

with the following contents:

----------------------- cut here -----------------------------------
#!/bin/ksh
#
# Hack to fix a font problem with netscape4 and solaris 2.6.
# /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/ needs to be the first thing
# in the fontpath or netscape can't find some fonts.
#
if [ -f "/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/fonts.dir" ]
then
eval "$OPENWINHOME/bin/xset +fp /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/"
fi
----------------------- cut here -----------------------------------
