I am having a serious problem adding a HP Surestore DAT24x6 (C1559
single modelis C1557A) to a SUN Ultra1. The Ultra 1 has two SCSI cards
in it. I have tried it on both but it doesn't work. I have two HP
Surestore DAT24x6 drives. At first I thought it was the drive but I
tried it on a SPARCStation2 and both drives worked fine. Also the
likely hood of there being a problem with both drives is low.
The following are the errors I get when I write to DDS3 tape media.
On Solaris - DUMP: Write Error: 45 feet into the tape 1.
On the HP LCD - "Read Fail Clean Me". Or "tape position lost: clean me"
If I use DDS2 media I just get a write error after a long time and a
clean me on the tape LCD. I don't get any tape position lost messages.
The following is my st.conf.
tape-config-list=

Its configured exactly as per HPs instructions for the drive.
I can use mt to rewind and eject the tapes no problem. The /dev/rmt
device files are all there. I did my reconfigure reboot. The /dev/rmt
files are listed them below.
0 0cb 0hb 0lb 0mb 0u 1 1cb 1hb 1lb 1mb 1u
0b 0cbn 0hbn 0lbn 0mbn 0ub 1b 1cbn 1hbn 1lbn 1mbn 1ub

0c 0h 0l 0m 0n 0un 1c 1h 1l 1m 1n 1un
Note the 0 files are the tape drive and the 1 files are the changer.
I have set the changer option as per HPs instructions.
The following is the result of a probe-scsi-all from the OpenBoot

This and the mt rewind working means the Sun box definately see the HP.
I am using Solaris 2.6 and I applied the latest firmware upgrade to the
HP SureStore DAT24x6. The latest firmware was U706 at time of writing.
The drive is also terminated correctly.
I have had problems with HP DAT24x6 drives before on NT. They often
don't like certain SCSI cards. I am pretty sure this is the problem on
Solaris but I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
Any help much appreciated,
Kevin Smith.
