Ghostscript compile errors

In trying to compile GS3.3 (ghostscript), I am getting the error on
making the target jcomapi.c; see below. Has anyone installed
Ghostscript on a Sun running Solaris 2.5.1? I read the FAQ and read me
with no help.

# make
make: Fatal error: Don't know how to make target `jpeg-5a/jcomapi.c'
# ls -l makefile
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root other 11 Jan 3 13:47 makefile ->
unix-cc.mak
# uname -a
SunOS sunads01 5.5.1 Generic_103640-03 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-2

Are you sure that you have downloaded and built the JPEG library source
code as well? The JPEG stuff is *not* part of the main GhostScript
package as far as I can recall, so it has to be downloaded separately.

Before running into trouble with gs3.33, did you consider geting gs4.03
from ftp.cs.wics.edu?
