Chatting with somebody who really does know what he is talking about,
he suggested that i should download and install the K-desktop. Now
this would be worthwhile as i am familiar with it, however, having
found it here, http://telia.dl.sourceforge.net/mirrors/kde/stable/ i
cannot find one that is for the Sparc. They all seem to be for Solaris
on Intel. Would anybody be so kind as to point me in the right
direction as i'm floundering now;-)

tekkno.

It (or a version of it, probably not bleeding edge) is available with
Solaris 8, on the `free software' CD that comes with it (the media
pack I have to hand doesn't have that CD in it, so I can't remember
the name. Once installed, it lives in /opt/sfw somewhere, and you
have to run a little script to add it to the login menu. Once there,
it seems to just work.

The freeware cd is called: COMPANION CD...it has tons to precompiled
binaries (including KDE) to get you started...though its version of the
SDL libraries (1.1.5) is well behind the current one (1.2.5)...! =)

Cheers!
