Just to fill up this newsgroup a bit, can anyone guess what's happening
here? :

:)

Image updated every now and then whilst I do something quite funky in Perl
for the intro animation for the 1984 chapter (restarted work on that after
various distractions).

Your docking computer was playing up and so you decided to enter the
orbiting space station under manual control. As the "Blue Danube"
blasted out of the speakers and you space craft synchronized with the
rotation of the station you accidentally hit the 'A' key and fired your
lasers through the docking hatch.

Instantly 26 Thargoids, cunningly disguised as children's letter bricks
swarmed out of the Space Station and began attacking you. (This is on a
BBC B. Nothing so remotely exciting happens on the Spectrum version).

Just as you are about to disintegrate and your crystals tumble into the
void there is a message "Right On Commander! All Your Sinclair are
belong to us" and at that moment your computer freezes.

All outgoing messages are terminated.

Looks like you're morphing the YS logo into something, or something into the

Nope, although I'm intrigued about where you thought the letters came into

It's definitely not Stonkers.

I can only say that for certain because I realised I didn't actually
know what Stonkers looked like until two minutes ago... I'm down with

They're letters? Oh yes, so they are. I thought they were just points.

Another hint - just wrote a bit of Perl that produced this.

http://obdwww.egyptus.co.uk/fg.gif

Two posers:

1) Name the group and song. That should be easy.

2) How does it tie in with the above image?

Well it's ZZTop but it doesn't really tie into the above image other
than I know that you have been doing your whole YS "Rock 'n' Roll Years"
stuff.

Maybe Nick is leaving the YS archives where they are and instead
concentrate on Zzap64! archives? (Zztop ~= Zzap :-)

ZZ-top and the song "Doubleback"

> 2) How does it tie in with the above image?

Well, Doubleback is from the soundtrack to "Back the the future part 3"
Your Sinclair was published by "Future publishing"

I got it! You're communicating the 80's desire for important communists to
defect to the west through strange advertisements left in the small ads in
computing periodicals of the time.

ah... You're right - the angle confused me - looking at it, it's
either
"Legs" or "Viva las Vegas" or almost any of their videos :-) ...
I'd go for "Legs" though - it has that "Mall parking lot" feel that I
remember...

Although how that links to the previous image, I have no idea...

Think about what the first image represents and how it could be combined
with the second image - I'm just working on the intro animation for the
1984 chapter of the documentary.

It's a bit tenuous, I grant you :)

Maybe Sinclair himself also goes for legs? Thus Nick would make a
presentation about how much more lucky with women Sir Clive would
be if he grew a big beard.

hmm... "head's in mississipi" ? "Velcro fly" ? "Pin cushion" ?
Definately not "Planet of women"... I think... No ... no... wait...
I think its "Gimmie all your lovin"
[what do you mean, I'm just listing all the singles I can remember :-)
to be honest though, -all- their videos have a scene with the 3 of
them posing as in the picture]

Well... people have mentioned Star Wars ; although the closest of the
movies would have been 83's Return of the Jedi... so that doesn't
really fit. Games with letters from '84 would have been things like
the various incarnations of "Blockbusters" [with it eventually being
renamed something beginning with 'W' IIRC ] .... ah.... channel 4 and
countdown.. no... wait... that started in 82 - although all those
letters and the circle does make me think countdown-y.

Back to Star Wars, there was a glut of early "star-wars" style clones
- like death-star interceptor ... hmm... although didn't the official
[Domark] release come out in 85/6 ? hmm.

Still no real idea!

>It's a bit tenuous, I grant you :)
