external Sun CD on SGI

I think that I read on a previous post to this group that external Sun
CDROM's would work with an SGI. I have a SGI Indy running IRIX 5.3 that I
have connected an external Sun 1x CDROM to using the SCSI cable from the
Sun, and the terminator that was on the SGI. The SGI appears to know the
CDROM is there ('hinv' reports: CDROM: unit 4 on SCSI controller 0). I have
modified /etc/fstab, fsd.auto, and fsd.tab, trying different options and
flags that I have seen on various FAQ's for similar situations. I have
tried to read iso9660 CD's and the SGI system CD (using 'efs' for the
filesystem type). The current contents of those files are:

/etc/fstab: /dev/scsi/sc0d4l0 /CDROM iso9660 ro,sock=tmp/.mediada0004w 0 0

/etc/fsd.auto: /dev/scsi/sc0d4l0 /CDROM mediad ro,mon=on 0 0

/etc/fsd.tab: /dev/scsi/sc0d4l0 /CDROM mediad ro,mon=on 0 0

A CD Icon comes up on the desktop, but when I try to access it, it says
there is no media loaded. This is true of the Disk Manager as well.

Can someone tell me whether a Sun CD drive should work, and what steps are
needed to access it?

Thank you,
Greg
