I'm having a small problem with IRIX DHCP. I am able to get an IP
address, and talk to other machines on my subnet, but I cannot get the
box to add the correct default route for the internet. The gateway for
the network is on a different subnet than the box, and IRIX 6.5 just
reports "Network is unreachable" when I try to add it. This works just
fine in Linux (Gentoo tested).
Can anyone suggest a way for me to add the correct default route,
which needs to go through xxx.xxx.168.1, when the box is xxx.xxx.
167.205.
Also, static IP is *not* an option.
As far as I know you can't talk to a gateway on another subnet. So, this
suggests you run with a subnet mask that covers both of your 'subnets'.
There must be something else wrong.
Can you try to clean out your /etc/config/ifconfig-1.options and
/etc/config/static-route.options ?

First, look at your network masks for both systems. A gateway by
definition _must_ be on the same subnet as the host. That's how
it gets to another subnet in the first place. So, whatever mask
you have on the Irix host is more restrictive than the mask on the
Gentoo host.
You'll either have to change the network mask on the Irix host, or
set up a router between the two subnets and point the Irix host to it.
