I've asked the question before but the answers didn't help at all.

I have a SGI Indy at home.
I want to connect it to the internet.
I want to use it as a personal computer and work with 3d on it (no server
comp).

There are three other computers in my home connected to a router using a
dhcp network/connection. I can do nothing about the dhcp connection (because
my cable modem ISP is using it).

Here is the question...

How do I connected my Indy to the internet? How do I configure DHCP on it?
(domain names etc.) Do I have to do anything special since it will be
connected through a router?

You should also know that I'm not very familiar with Unix so go easy :).

I've tried to get help with this for quite some time, but no one can help
me. I would be really happy if any of you guys could tell me how to do this.
Thank you!

Regards,

Generally, I would not use DHCP but rather configure the SGI Indy
with a static IP-address, define a default route to the router, send
all traffic to the router, and resolve any problem there.

However, here are some earlier postings on DHCP for IRIX 6.2:

- Brian Krusic <br...@metrolight.com> wrote:
man proclaim, however on the client do;
chkconfig autoassign_ipaddress on
comment out any DHCP/ Bootp options in inted.conf (no need for it
if proclaim does it all)
set up a DHCP server (either NT/ Linux, or Irix)
make sure to have some kind of udp helper address in your router
config (if supported) to point to ip of DHCP server (in Cisco speak,
its ip helper address config).

You should be able to turn on DHCP on your Indigo II by running
"chkconfig autoconfig_ipaddress on". The next time that you boot
it will autoconfigure your IP address.

If you have an older version of IRIX or do not have the proclaim
DHCP client installed you can probably set your IP address
statically. You could do this by letting your PC connect once and
get a DHCP address. Run winipcfg on your PC to see what IP address
it was assigned. Use this address on your Indigo II and have your
PC re-request a new IP address.
