Time will tell if it is ever more than vapourware, but I have put up the money for one just in case.

The price is approximately the same number as the original, which has me wondering how I managed to afford the 3a all those years ago.

Yup - I looked at this and considered it worthy of stumping up the cash.

It misses a few of the things that made the 3 and 5 Series so good - like the minimalist but capable OS and the incredible battery life - but it has the potential to be really useful and reintroduce some of the classic features that made Psions such a joy to own.

Fingers crossed!

I've tried using Psions recently, but sadly they've just aged too badly to be particularly useful these days. PsiWin won't work properly on new versions of Windows and the lack of serial ports on PCs is a problem. Hopefully that will be overcome by this device.

Oddly a new office computer we recently got at work had a serial port
on it, a Windows 7 Core i3 system. Seemed to be a strange choice.

Serial port cards are widely available, StarTech
(http://www.startech.com) have a big range of solutions including
PCI-Express cards for use in bleeding-edge motherboards.

The card I use with my PC and trusty 5mx has the part reference
PEX2S5531P https://www.startech.com/uk/Cards-Adapters/Serial-Cards-Ada
pters/2S1P-Port-PCI-Express-Parallel-Serial-Combo-Card-16550-UART~PEX2S5531P
and works very well.

The new thing does look interesting but for the time being I'm happy
with my 5mx.

The last PC motherboard I bought came with 3 x RS232 and 1 x RS232/422/485 ports, and the back panel adaptors.

I think that the serial port is far from dead.
