I have a Psion 3a, and am now at work in the office where I don't have
my
handbook. I have a backup of the Psion on my PC, and am having problems
switching it on. When I switch it on it beeps, and the whole screen sort
of goes slightly darker, but no text appears. I have tried the contrast
and using the mains adapter, but have had no success. Someone here who
has a Psion 3 tells me I should do a hard reset. Please could someone
let me know what key presses are involved in this.

Many thanks.

Correct me if I am wrong but...
I would think that you would just want to back up ALL of your data, and
remove both the AA batteries and the backup battery. Remember, if you do
this the Psion's memory is completely reset, all data is lost. Except for
the ROM. Then you can see if the unit has fixed itself at least.

To do a "hard reset" on a Psion without removing all batteries, press =
"right shift", and hold it down while
pushing a paper clip into the little hole above the ON/ESC button. Keep =
the "right shift" button pressed
while turning the Psion back on. Do not release the button before the =
Psion logo is shown.
This hard-reset is as hard as they come...
It-s even in the manuals, I presume.

Best regards

Hi

you could try a soft reset first - press a paperclip into the hole by the left hand
hing, WITHOUT pressing any other key at the same time. The psion will
reset, but all files will still be there, including groups, and can be re-installed.
Any time alarms will be lost.

If that doesn't work, a hard reset is done by the following, but all files, data
and information will be LOST!!!!:-
1) hold down the right hand shift key
2) press paperclip into hole
3) press <on> key while still holding down right shift key.

In article <335E2D...@gecfs.ge.com>, bgrif...@gecfs.ge.com says...
