What are we going to do next year when (hopefully!) a significant number of
EPOC machines get released by third parties? I doubt if most of their
purchasers would think of c.s.p.m as the obvious NG to ask their questions in.
How about a "comp.sys.epoc" or a "comp.sys.symbian" NG as a catch-all, with
the possibility of individual product NGs in the comp.sys heirarchy?

Another (better?) possibility might be to rename "comp.sys.psion.misc",
"comp.sys.psion.programmer" etc as "comp.sys.epoc.misc" and
"comp.sys.epoc.programmer", etc since programming, comms and apps questions
are likely to be common to all platforms, then create a "comp.sys.epoc.psion"
NG for Psion-specific questions (broken stylii, hinges, cracked screen cables,
etc.)

Just some thoughts...

That won't work. Don't forget that Psion have been producing handhelds
and related kit for yonks, and there are loads of Psion owners out
there who don't have epoc machines. While I don't have any strong
feelings on the matter ATM I would suspect that your first suggestion,
ie. a separate comp.sys.epoc.*, would be the most sensible, doubtless
with lots of cross-posting between comp.sys.psion.* and comp.sys.epoc.*.

What about the SIBO machines? It would be nice not having to trawl through
all the Psion5 stuff looking for P3 threads.

"comp.os.epoc.*" would probably be more appropriate - that's the hierarchy
for operating systems rather than specific hardware platforms.

Couldn't agree more. Although breaking up the group by machine has been
discussed and pooh-poohed before. The simple expedient of putting the
machine name in the title is not universally done. That alone would help.
