I recently purchased a 5mx to replace my 3mx. I installed the PsiWin3.2
software which offered the ability to copy and convert the 3mx data onto
the 5mx.

But, the prog would not talk to the 3mx, I kept getting a message which
said something like "the link has been broken - check the connections
and com port settings", I checked everything on numerous occasions and
followed the advice in the "Troubleshooting" section of the help file
but to no avail.

I have now installed the later version of PsiWin 3.2.3 which I
downloaded from the Psion site which has cured the problem and I have
backed up both machines, but the "Upgrade from 3mx to 5mx" option is now
missing so I still can't get the data across.

My questions are:

Is it possible to import the data from the backups?

Do the 3mx files need to be converted for the 5mx

Why have I lost the "Upgrade from 3mx to 5mx" on the new PsiWin and can
it be retrieved

Basically, how can I get my Contacts, Diary and spreadsheets from the 3
to the 5

Regards and thanks for any help

Drag your entire backup of your 3mx from your harddrive on to the desktop of
your 5mx that is connected to Psiwin.

You need a registry tweak to allow the 3mx to speak with PsiWin 2.3

Find it here

No you don't. You just need to change a setting in your PC Reg file. Very
simple.

The latest "free" version of Psiwin is crippled so that it won't
recogniseS3. The problem can be easily corrected by a small change to
regedit. Palm top magazine details how in this month's issue. The upgrade
facility will then work ok.

Thanks for that ... But I checked the Reg key and it already says "36dd"
so it must be something else.

You say

I say

> > You need a registry tweak

It amounts to the same thing in my book: leave the Registry in a different
state to the way you found it.

So how about letting us have the fix for the s3. I will not be getting a
subscription just for that.
