I know this is a bit of a long shot but does anyone have a Psion with
infrared port (Revo, Revo+, Mako, 5MX etc) and a Pioneer DV-454 DVD Player
or similar (DV-350)?

The reason I ask is that I have written an application which sends the
region unlock code to the DVD Player using the infrared port on the Psion.
I got the unlock code from the VCDHelp.com web site, but I am currently
waiting for delivery of my own DV-454 Player and haven't been able to test
it.

You can download the application from:
http://www.spigdog.co.uk/RevoDV454Hack.htm

If there is anyone out there with both devices I would be interested in
knowing what results you get (I'm just impatient really!)

I have also written a more generic infrared control program which broadcasts
any discreet infrared code (sometimes called Raw Code) that you give it. I
have tested this with a number of devices (Sharp TV, Sky Digibox) and it
seems to work OK. So in theory if the region unlock code used is correct it
should work.

I've got a Psion 7 and a Pioneer DVD 535. I'm quite happy using the
remote control for the DVD to change the region code on the player as
neccessary.

What I really need is an application on my Psion 7 that will tell me
where the damned remote control is..

Unfortunately the DV-454 and DV-350 region locked players can only be
'unlocked' by sending them a infrared code sequence that the supplied
controller can't generate. It's possibly to buy or rent a 3rd party remote
control which will send the code but by using a Psion it is possible to save
a bit of cash. Once unlocked the DVD player will automatically switch
region to whatever disk is loaded.

I've now got my new DV-454 player and tested the program, after a bit of
fiddling it worked and now plays both Region 1 and 2 disks.

I too now just need a system to maintain the multiple remotes which fill up
the coffee table... In theory the Psion could act as a multi-remote, but as
the IR beam only works up to 1 meter it would be pretty useless...
