My Psion 3a (512K) has developed a fault where the screen has gone
'stripey'- 1 pixel column in every 4 is not working.

Can this be fixed? Any recommended repairers in the south-east? Can
anyone fix it for less than the price of a secondhand 3a? Can anyone
sell me a secondhand 3a (>512K) to replace it for less than the price of
the repair?

POS fixed my 3a screen a couple of months ago. A lot cheaper than
sending back to Psion and they were very quick. (Posted it Wednesday,
got it back on Saturday)

Well, can't see any relevance on that particular site, but never mind!

I've sussed that the problem is mechanical - it's the ribon cable that
can be (literally) pushed into service with a paperclip when the lid is
half closed.

Does anyone know - is the 3a ribbon attached at either end, or is is a
spare part that can be purchased and user-fitted?

I'm sure this discussion should be in the .misc newsgroup

However to help you out check the following links which show (with pics)
how to pull your Psion apart. The first link has the better pics and a
step by step guide but only covers fixing the button bar ribbon cable,
the second goes on to pull the whole thing apart and fix the screen
cable.

Happy delving!
