Greetings:

I have a Psion series 5 connected with psiwin to my NT 4 desktop machine.
That machine is connected to a network via an Ethernet card and has access
to several Unix machines and the internet. My question is this: I'd like to
be able to telnet, with Hermes or Jtelnet, to the Unix boxes on our network,
or to an internet machine. I can do this from my PC, but I can't seem to get
my psion to 'look past' my desktop.

Any help would be most appreciated. I will post a summary of any e-mail
responses. Thanks in advance.

PsiWin uses a custom protocol to connect between the Psion and the
desktop. telnet (and other internet apps) need TCP/IP, which over a
serial cable (like you have) means using PPP or SLIP.

So at the Psion end, make sure the message suite is installed, at the
NT end, run RAS *instead* of psiwin, sine RAS is a PPP server. So you
use RAS for internet stuff, and you have to switch to PsiWin when you
want to use 'my psion', etc.

5Alive has a section on setting up RAS, if I remember right.

I have gotten this to work, not with NT but on an Amiga... the idea is
the same. You need to setup the psion to make a direct cable connection
through the RAS server (This will also work with Win95/Win98 with dailup
networking), next you need IP sharing software, wingate or Sygate will
work. Have your psion make a TCP connection to the NT machine with TCP
and if you have Wingate or Sygate installled it should work :)
