I'm using MsgSuite, an S5, a Psion PC-card adaptor, and a Motorola Cellect
PC-card modem (not a GSM model, though), and have no trouble e-mailing,
Webbing, or faxing from a landline.

However, using my setup with a Motorola DPC650 cell phone, I cannot get a dial
tone. Have tried all combinations of settings, with the same sad results.

Is it possible that MsgSuite will not accept cellular based calls that are not GSM
based? (I know that some users have been able to clennect using GSM modems
and phones.)

Panis,

I contacted Psion and they told me to check the Firmware version of my
card (should be 1.06 apparently). They said I could check this by going
into comms and typing AT13 to check the version - this only returned an
error. I've now contacted Psion Dacom to see if they can help....
Will post results here.

Try ATI3 instead - that's an upper case 'i', not the digit '1'.

You neither say what the modem card is that you are using nor what
actually happened when you tried to connect. Nor for that matter what
phone you are connecting too. Without this info it is difficult to give
any advice.

To put this in perspective, Psion Goldcard Globals did not originally
work with Nokia 2110's. They required a firmware fix. AFAIK the new 56K
versions still do not.

It sounds like I am using exactly the same setup as you and I have no
problems at all. I use a Nokia Cellular Data Card GSM/PCN which is
version "DTP - 2 ver II". I have been told that some older versions
have problems. I set the Psion msgsuite default settings for "Psion
Dacom Modem" and connect via a Nokia 2110. Maybe it is a problem with
your access provider recognising the signal from your Nokia

Does anyone know whether this is true? I was going to buy a 56K Gold
Card as my company is making noises about the fact that I have
"borrowed" a Nokia card and a Toshiba PCMCIA 14.4 card from them
