Hi there,
I loved my T|X but it died the other day and I want to get a new PDA. I
don't want a phone or e-mail system attached, just something to do contacts,
calendar, a few basic applications (like outlines) and a few games. I wanted
the Palm Centro but Verizon said they only sell that with a contract (which
I don't want). I'm not married to the Palm OS but I see that some of the
Palm machines run Windows Mobile. At this point I'm even willing to consider
in IPAQ.

Obviously I've been out of the PDA market for a while so if anyone can help
me with the basics, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Paula

You might want to check out overstock.com which sells refurbished,
unlocked Centros or eBay. Best Buy sometimes still stocks Palm TX and
Z22 PDAs.

You might also want to step up to a netbook PC or a ultramobile PC
even if they are probably overkill for what you want to do right now.
They are packing some truly amazing power in these little machines.
You might want to check out the new UMID mbook M1
<http://www.dynamism.com/#Product=umid>. It's probably more expensive
than what you'd want to pay and is definitely overkill for a PDA but
it's where the market is moving and they are starting to get some
great battery life to the point where they rival PDAs.

Try the iPod Touch. It can be used as a PDA. You can play music on it,
run applications, play games, and keep a calendar and address book.
There is no phone involved. You can get e-mail if you want, just like
you could on your Palm T|X. It has Wi-Fi, so you need not pay for a plan.

Otherwise, you can go to PDAPreferred.com and pick up a refurbished
Palm. I would stay away from the Tungsten E2. The Tungsten C is pretty
good, if you can handle a keypad instead of the graffiti area.

Thanks so much. I was thinking about the IPod Touch. Can data be directly
entered into the iPod the way it can into a Palm??

Out of curiosity, what's wrong with the E2?

What about syncing data between an iPod Touch and an XP/Vista host, or
even Linux?

Thank you.

Digitizer problems. Had the digitizers on E2s go bad so many times. It
may be due to the fact that I often use E2's.

I do like the Tungsten Cs a lot.

Sorry, I never used an iPod Touch. Supportingly, your contact manager
on the Apple syncs with it. I am not sure what the options are on the
PC side, but there must be some.

Check Ebay for a Zire 31. Nothing fancy, but mine has survived being
in my pocket for several years.

Two possibilities:
1. Your T|X may be repairable
2. You can probably buy a used T|X on eBay.

Good luck!

Expansys sold Centro without contract in UK, they have US operation.
Look for suppliers of kit not suppliers of phone services! I'm not sure
Centro is still being produced now pre is launched. You could do a
search for Palm Zire - maybe still a few around. I went from Palm IIIxe
to Zire 71 to Centro and it was dead easy to move all the data and
history along with me.
