Loading up VersaMail freezes for a few minutes on an old Palm Treo 680.

Hi!
Does anyone know how to fix VersaMail's startup freezes that last for a
few minutes? It is on my client's old Palm Treo 680. We already tried
deleting e-mails, but that did not help. Also, he has a few POP3s and
SMTPs accounts/setups.
