I skimmed a manual before so know I don't NEED it. I managed to work
out most of the stuff, I got the transfer working - what a bugger
it was to find out how to turn on the com port. It was a few days before
I found out howw I was accidentally getting the setup screen.
Anyway, I'm very pleased. I may get DOS 6 - any advice?
Ever heard of a keyboard-mouse driver? I'll do some gopjher scans
to try and find, and then mackle on, to use the BLUE-DOT key and
the cursor keys. Some of my electronic software requires a mous.
Playing elite, I find that some of the colours are not vivible against
eachothe at any contrast setting. Advice?
I run DR Dos ViewMAX, its very nice. I also Run PSPICE the evealuation
"Do not need a coprocessor" version.
Can I call the speech utilities from the command line, and make them play some
speech? Or rather my own programs? Can I user the POWER$ device driver?
Any other tricks people know of?
I will be installing 4DOS in a while, is that a bad idea.
Oh, by the way, INTERSVR does NOT work with SuperStor compressed disks -
so be warned. But it works with DOS6's compression. (I hope so - DOS6
shipes with intersvr and interlnk)
Any, I need some good PIMS to replace the built in ones.
What are peoples favoutrite? What should I use...
Thanks - and later!

I got the Quaderno because I wanted to run Lotus Agenda 2.0.
Agenda is the best PIM ever made. Lotus dropped this product (nobody
knows why) therefore you could get it cheap!
Other programs I use on the Quaderno are: Lotus 123 r2.3, WP5.1, WP
Office 3.01, SlideWrite 3.1 and MathCAD 2.5
I use Netware Lite 1.1 and a cheap Dlink clone to connect it to my PC.
Do you need what dos6 offers? I don't, so I won't upgrade.

Um... don't play elite? :-)

I don't think so.

I use an old copy of WordPerfect Office - gives me a good calendar/to-do list,
good calculator, limited task switching. MS Works provides an adequate
(basic) word-processor, spreadsheet and database, and has the advantage of offering
a 50-line screen mode on the Quaderno - readable, too (in good light).
One question to the world: Anyone know anything about the Quaderno PCMCIA fax/modem?
Cost? Where to get it? Is it any good?
Thanks,

Someone from Olivetti here in theis group mentioned it a while back.
I e-mailed him about it -- he said he'd fax me a 1-page blurb on it.
Anyway, I haven't had the fax, and I can't recall who "he" was
[BTW: my fax no is +27-12-841-4109]. It wasn't Don Herrick, however.
As far as I can gather it's a 2400bps modem/9600bps fax unit, and
[like the HP-95's modem] is a kludge so it will work in a PCMCIA 1
slot. Also [I'm told] it's not compatible with the HP-95 modem, so
neither will work in the other machine. Price was about $275 [?],
and I think he said they're available from Olivetti North America.
If you find out more, please post.

The fax/modem is from New Media Corporation, Irvine, CA, Tel:714-453-0100
FAX:714-453-0114. It is also available from Olivetti North America
Tel:800-633-9909.
I have one of these for my Quaderno and it works very well. The software
is located on the card and provides terminal emulation/file transfer and
send fax capabilities. The send fax is for sending of text files only.
Data is 2400 bps and fax is 4800 bps.
There is no external power supply and the DAA connection is quite small so
it is extremely portable. It is a good use for the PCMCIA slot on the
Quaderno.
At the current time, I believe there are no DAAs for outside of the US
and I don't think the unit can be purchased outside the US. However I
think New Media is working to develop a universal international DAA.

Ouch. Sounds a bit limited. I infer from this that you can't use your own
choice of comms software, so that any limitations of the built in stuff
(eg: text only fax, grot..) are there to stay. Is this true? Or is there
some kind of API?
And does the modem do MNP-{4,5} or V.42[bis]?

True, the limitations present are always present. It supports both Kermit
and X/Y modem protocols. I use Y-modem the most. Currently there is no
scripting language. The modem does V.27ter, V.22bis, V.22, V.21 and Bell
212A and Bell 103 and does not do MNP-{4,5} or V.42[bis].
I still like it because it does all I need it to do. My bigger notebook
modem/fax does have all the features, and I take my bigger notebook with me
when I think I will need all these features. The Quaderno modem/fax does
fit internally and needs no power supply, and those are big advantages over
a pocket modem.
