Hi,
I recently purchased a casio e-11 and i am now looking for connectivity
options. According to the e-11 docs, the compact flash socket can hold
either storage or modem. Any idea if this really works or a compatible c/f
modem exists ?

10x,
Gadi

Hi,

If you don't mind using the cradle whilst connecting with your Casiopeia E11
then all you need is a Null modem connector and maybe a 9pin to 25pin
connector and you can connect your Casiopeia E11 to any external modem. I do
it all the time an it works just fine ! No mention of this in the manual !!

regards,

Karlos

Well, I have an E-11, and I use mine with my modem all the time, but no more
bulky cradle.

It's not very difficult to remove the "plastic housing" of the cable, and
just keep the connectors. How I Did mine:

(warning, may void warranties, etc.. etc...)

Remove your E-11from the cradle, remove the AC adapter power plug (I haven't
tried with the others, then again, I only own an E-11)

On the bottom of the cradle are four phillips screws, removal, and the
bottom plate can be removed.

There is a ferrite ring on the cable near the adapter circuit board. rather
bulky of one. I assume they were expecting quite a bit of interference or
some such, the cradle cable doesn't appear too shielded.

From there, the adapter plug can be lifted out of it's spot. there are two
phillips screws (which I had originally missed the first time I looked at
removing things) on either side of the plastic housing that holds the circuit
board/adapter to the cradle. Remove these two, and the whole cable/adapter
unit will come away.

Me, I used a few strips of electrical tape to gather up the DC adapter and
ferrite ring and hold them to the circuit board. the DC plug sticks out one
side, the cable out the other. Simple, and not much larger than the modem
unit anyway.

I purchased a null modem adapter, and gender changer, and was able to get my
E-11 to function with my Ricochet wireless modem from my laptop. (very handy,
a good compliment to the PDA)

Now, I hadn't read below about the null modem bit until after having spent a
few hours reverse engineering the data coming off the port in FreeBSD,
verfying the command strings that the "Hayes compatible" sends (I'm a geek,
It's part of the nature to RE anything I can..) my ricochet occasionally
dislikes parts of the AT comand set.

But, all in all, I grabbed a copy of Palm Browser, and was off price
comparing at the local Barnes and Noble last night. (amazon.com in hand..)

(the other programmer here at work saw my new toy combo and commented "You're
going for the 'Bigger Geek than You Award' aren't you?" )

In retrospect, I should have digicammed the whole process..

Terminal is really designed for calling up the old ASCI based BBSes. If you
want to connect to your ISP and connect to a telnet session I suggest that
you get a Telnet program for your NEC. You can find more information in the
Termain FAQ at http://www.cewindows.net

You retrieve email using Windows CE's Inbox program. I suggest that you
start up the program and read through the online help, or check your user
manual for instructions on how to use it.

No, you cant since the Internet connection and the Terminal program
both require access to the modem. You need a telnet client.
