hotsynch problem on my Mac

Hi... please help!!??

I've been using a Handspring Visor for two years and never had a problem
HotSynching until just a few weeks ago... all of a sudden it wouldn't do
it. Each time I try I get a message saying "Serial Monitor could not
process an AppleEvent. An AppleEvent error has occurred. (-1701)"

Just this weekend I switched to a Palm m125, and was kind of hoping that
by re-installing all the software that it would fix the problem, but it
hasn't.

I've been told this means the app I'm using needs an update. But as far
as I can tell I have the most current version of HotSynch... any help?

I'm using Mac OS 9.0.4 on a Power Macintosh 8600, with a USB connection
added on to it.
