I cant get hotsync to work, tried both local and network.
I used a null-modem cable as suggested for the local.
For the network, I could not set my modem to "direct-connect"
as some docs suggest. I am using a visor rom image.

TIA

Unless you're really trying to test specific things through _serial_
Hotsync, why not set it up for Network hotsync? It's easier than using
cables and multiple serial ports.

Set up a direct connection in the Preferences/Connections dialog, then use
your computer's name or IP address as the target machine.

In the emulator Settings, turn on the checkbox to reroute all the COM
traffic to NetLib, and in Hotsync manager, enable Network sync and check the
box on the Network tab that allows your POSE user name to sync via the
network.

I've probably missed something, but there's certainly stuff on the web about
how to set up for Network Hotsync.

All that sounds great, and thats what the docs say as well.
However I have the foll. problems:
1) Under modem, I have only one option: standard
2) Modem sync alternately asks me for a phone number or overflows the stack

Here are the details about how I am set up:

HotSync Manager:

- Network enabled on Tool Tray popup menu
- On Setup.... menu, Network tab, check the user name for your emulator,
usually "PalmOS Emulator"

POSE (please bear in mind this is a 3.3 ROM from a PalmV - your image may
vary):

Right-mouse on the POSE display, choose Settings.../Properties... and make
sure the "redirect NetLib calls to Host TCPIP" option is checked. COM port
doesn't matter.

Launch the HotSync app from its icon

- on Options/ModemSyncPrefs menu, choose Network (not Direct to Modem)
- on Options/LanSync Prefs menu, choose LANSync rather than Local Hotsync
- on Options/Primary PC Setup menu, enter PC name and 255.255.255.0 for
subnet mask
- on the main HotSync screen, I have a choice between Local and Modem.
Choose Modem.
The first time you attempt a network Hotsync, it will prompt for a
connection - create a new one, no user name, no password, connection type
"Direct", tap Done to return to HotSync screen.
- You'll get prompted for a phone number - use "00" (two zeros).

Now when you start a HotSync it should connect to the desktop HotSync
manager internally by using the TCP/IP stacks rather than serial I/O.

Of course, when I'm just installing an application from a PRC or PDB file, I
just right-mouse and use the Install Application/Database... dialog - it's
quicker than even a speedy network Hotsync.

Hope this helps.....

I'm beginning to wonder if its just the visor ROM that has this problem.

I checked and rechecked all my settings and they match what most
docs and ppl (including Pete).

I set the phone number to the "magic" number as suggested (00).
Hotsync manager has "Network" checked.
My Primary PC settings are correct.

However, the only thing I do not have is the option to set modem as "direct
connect".
The only option is standard. When I run the "modem" sync which I guess is
really
a "network" sync, it tells me "Error: modem not found (0x1106)".

I have no problem installing stuff using the right-mouse function.
Thats how I installed the RomTransfer app. However, I am
trying to test the conduit for Oracle Lite which kept failing on
my visor device.

Can someone mail me a Palm ROM image (not visor)?

Thanx
Vikas

I initially ran into a problem with syncing POSE too. After getting
everything set up correctly, I found that it was all tied to the IP address
setting in the PC Setup screen. If it's not 127.0.0.1 or blank, I change it.
Then I don't see the problem again until after I disconnect from my dial up
connection.

I get to this part and there's no "Palm anything-but-my-hardware-palm"
to check, no selection for the emulator.

If you haven't hotsynced the emulator yet, the name won't be in the list on
the Network tab. Skip this part and attempt a sync. HotSync Manager should
detect that it's a new device and prompt you to accept the Emulator's name
(usually PalmOS Emulator) or to key in a new one, depending on the version.

I am not on a dialup, but on a LAN.
Does this thing work only with modems?
I would be very surprised (and disappointed) if thats the case.
