DateBk4 - question

I run OS3.0 on a Vx. I put in a daily repeating floater to remind me to
take a pill at a certain hour, and designated it as private, and it
dutifully disappeared (I know I have to 'unprivate' it using the OS
security, which is a bit of a bother, but at least don't have to see it all
the time). The first time the alarm went off, the middle box at the bottom
of the screen said, "Edit". It allowed me to delete that particular
instance of the reminder. Since then I have played around with the
reminder, and now when the alarm goes off the "Edit" box no longer appears,
and so I can't delete it without doing the security thing. What did I do?
What's the deal?

I'm not for certain; but, I think the Edit button on the alarm window is a
feature of DateBk4. If you are seeing an alarm window without it, it would
appear that the built-in Datebook application is processing the alarm rather
than DateBk4. I've seen this happen before; but, when it happens to me, I
usually get two alarms - I'm assuming that one comes from DateBk4 and the other
from Datebook. I don't know what causes it.

Are you syncing your Datebook with the Palm Desktop? Or do you have a 3rd
Party conduit installed to sync your calendar to some other application? I'm
using EasySync to sync to Lotus Notes.

Try running the Datebkstub program that comes w/ the download. I had
the same problem & this fixed it. Also be sure "DateBk4 handles alarms
is checked.

Interesting. The thing is, why would DateBk4 process the first instance,
then Datebook the second? I'm syncing thru Mirror to the Palm Desktop, and
occasionally to Outlook to be safe(er)(est).

If by the Datebkstub you mean dbScan, I ran it but it found no errors.
Also, I do have "DateBk4 handles alarms" checked. What a deal... I had it
right the first time, then it just disappeared. I'll keep working on it.
Meantime, if you can think of anything else, let me know. Thanx.

You do need the Datebook Stub program. If you don't find it on your
handheld, download it from www.pimlicosoftware.com Without that file in
place, you may have conflicts with the built-in datebook even if you check
the alarm handling box.

I don't actually remember the order of the alarms - I just remember that there
was a few days where I was getting double alarms for some of my appointments.

What happened was that I had to reformat and reload WinNT on the PC that I
hotsync to; so, I had to install Palm Desktop and Easysync (for Lotus Notes
calendar) again. Afterwards, I started getting double alarms. I don't know for
sure; but, it appears that I got double alarms for any appointments that were
created before the reload (and not updated after the reload). Any appointments
that have been created or updated after the reload work fine with just the
single alarm. I only had a few previous appointments with alarms - which are
all now in the past; so, it really wasn't much of a problem - more of a
curiosity.

The other (more annoying) thing that happened was that repeating appointments
were turned into multiple single appointments (so I can't change one and have
the change propagate to the rest); but, I think that is due to how Easysync
interfaces with the calendar data in Lotus Notes - and not a problem with either
Datebook or DateBk4.

I thought the stub program was for use on Visors because their built-in date
book application is actually a version of DateBk. On any other Palm that
uses the standard date book, checking the pref to let DateBk handle alarms
is supposedly sufficient. I don't recall whether the original poster has
said whether he is using a Visor or not, though.
