Thank a veteran
I'm a very satisfied user of BackupMan from Bits n Bolts software.
I'm afraid that it's not what you're looking for though, since it
doesn't use your computer at all. It backs up the state of your Palm
completely to your SD card. If you have a problem, it puts your Palm
back in the exact state it was in the last time that it was backed up.
And I do mean EXACT. Since I work a good distance away from home,
that has been good for me. I install a lot of freeware/shareware
programs to try out, and if one of them causes a zonk on my T|T, I can
hard reset and restore it to exactly like it was before the problem.
It has tons of features too. You can schedule backups to happen in
the middle of the night, and it will back up your Palm and then shut
it off, all while you're sleeping.
They have a demo version, so give it a try and see what you think.

MegaCommander, an excellent file manager, has a nice backup feature.

Ditto here. Perfect Backup/Restores every time.
Thanks, John! I wasn't very clear, I'm afraid -- I am looking for
something that will use my SD card, rather than my Mac. I just haven't
found anything that will work well for the Mac, and the idea of having
the backup right there with my Palm is a very reassuring one. After all,
my Palm isn't as likely to decide to crash when I'm at home with my
computer handy as when I'm away! ;) I'll give the demo a try!

Thanks to everyone for the information. I think I've made a decision
now. :)
You might want to check out PowerGuard Lite:
http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/powerguardlite.shtml
It's free and it backs whatever you choose up to a directory on your
SD card. I"ve been using it for about 3 or 4 months without much of a
problem & it's saved me once already. It's really nice being able to
restore my Tungsten C without a desktop.
The only hitch in using it is that if you delete an application but
don't update PowerGuard with that info (just access the select back up
files dialog), then you get a message in the log saying that it
couldn't back up the file (because you deleted it). It's a minor
hitch that doesn't seem to break anything, but it's just an annoyance.

Thanks for the info, Clymmer. I'll go look at it. :)
