TT Datebook sync hangs

I have a Tungsten T. Had a fatal hang up (don't ask details) which occured
during bluetoothing pictures from my mobile phone to Splash Photo - the
thing just hung up, soft reset didn't change things, so I had to do a
hardware reset and reinstall from my computer.

Then the hotsync just hung when I tried to restore, after a while I noticed
that it hung when syncing Datebook, and after setting the datebook conduit
to "Do nothing" I managed to restore my system.
When I subsequently tried to restore Datebook, the thing hung again, but
restored the Datebook partially before hanging. I have still got all of my
Datebook on the desktop though, and all other conduits work all right.

My own analysis is that the Datebook database probably is damaged - works on
the desktop but will not sync. Is there some way to "mend it"? - any other
suggestions?

Using the Palm desktop v 4.1. Tungsten T, Palm OS 5 with the latest patch.
