OKay I am confused is OPENSTEP 4.2 for mach/intel a complete
OS or is it a development environment for NEXTSTEP 3.3 mach/intel?

Why would someone want to use NS 3.3 over OS 4.2?

If you couldn't tell by now I am a newbie to the NeXT scene.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Don't worry... you get used to it... after awhile it won't even bother you...

4.2 is a later release than 3.3. Complete unto itself.

Well, for one, 3.3 is faster on NeXT hardware. Also, if you want to compile
NeXTStep programs (apps, many commandline utilities) it is much easier on
NeXTStep.

OpenStep has some newer apps which are very cool, and a whole new developer
system (well... relatively "whole new"... a big overhaul let's say). So if
you want to use OpenStep (which will be closer to Rhapsody) you'd want 4.2.

If I am not mistaken NS3.3 Developer has some Kits, e.g. 3DKit, which
are not available in OS4.2.
