Does SOX (and hence, GISO) handle 'snd' resources? I
don't believe so. I also don't see any support for the
variety of ways that a Mac file's resource fork may appear
on a NeXT machine. I'm not aware of any PD programs which do
this. One utility in our MetroTools bundle does though
(in...@metrosoft.com), as does the import/export
capabilities of SoundWorks 3.0 from Metaresearch I
believe.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm,
I have several sounds from the macintosh on my blackbox, including
e.g. the typical BOIIIINNNG, Beep, Bleerp and so on.
I don't know how this files got on my machine, but i will
check this out in the next days. I'll take the Software from
Farallons MACRECORDER, load a bigger resource into it and
try save that file as a .snd file on my PWB.
If that works, I'll post again
cu
No need...allow me to explain. There are a varierty of Mac
sound formats. The most common is what you describe - an
essentially flat file. The waveform data is in the data
fork (a flat dataspace, the one you can access via the
Workspace when you mount a Mac filesystem under
NEXTSTEP). There's an info resource in the resource fork
which contains the sample rate, etc. When you use
GISO/SOX you manually specify this data. MetroTools
reads it if it's available.
Another common Mac sound format consist of waveforms and
header information soley contained in 'snd' resources
(which are, of course, in the resource fork). These can
either be viewed as sound suitcases or sounds embedded in
Mac apps (or the System file, etc). Although initially
considerably more rare than "flat" sound files, 'snd'
resources have become more popular. MetroTools is the
only NEXTSTEP software I'm aware of that reads this
format, although SoundWorks v3.0 might.
