One of our black pre-ADB NeXT mice (the newer one, oddly enough) was
briefly exhibiting a problem this morning: it was producing double
and triple clicks when the button was clicked only once. This went
away again while I was trying to pin down the intermittent problem,
and it doesn't seem to have happened since. Is this the canonical
early failure mode for the switch inside, or is it just a one-time
case of something dusty or sticky that I jarred loose and that can
be cleaned by hand if necessary? I haven't actually broken open the
mouse yet, and am not even sure if the four visible screws are the
only ones needed to open it. (Maybe a secret one under the Teflon
slider strips?)

Anyway, has anyone else been through this one? And does anyone
remember how to get in touch with the supplier someone found years
ago for the replacement mouse switches? Please reply by email;
I'll summarize for the group and the FAQ.

It can be early signs of something terminal (HA!) with your mouse.
It can be dust.
Remove the 4 screws and pull off the cover. Blow the dust that is no
doubt there. Put the cover back on and wonder how they got the little
rubber thing lined up right. Try it again.

mouse solutions are get a logitech mouse from Dancing bear, or trade in
to bell atlantic. Both cost $65.
