1. OPENBASE 5.2 SHIPS TO CUSTOMERS
=================================

OpenBase today announced the availability of OpenBase 5.2 Relational
Database Server for Rhapsody DR2, OpenStep and Windows NT. OpenBase 5.2
offers remote internet access and administration, replication services, 100%
native JDBC access, MacOS clients and many other new features.

Used by thousands of companies spanning 37 countries, OpenBase is proven in
demanding corporate production environments. At the same time, it is an
ideal SQL-standard database choice for organizations who also want a future-
safe environment that lets them take advantage of the latest object
technologies and web tools.

Andreas Glocker of Sirius Connections, an internet provider with a 500,000
row database says, "OpenBase has proven amazing reliability over the last
four years. As our business has grown OpenBase has kept up. We are very
excited to see it come out on Rhapsody. "

Kevin Ford, president of Computer Active in Ontario says, "One of our
programmers wrote a system using the OpenBase API in less than a day. Doing
the same thing using Oracle OCIs took more than three. OpenBase
demonstrates a level of quality and robustness rarely seen in the software
world."

OpenBase exceeds the industry standards by providing powerful features not
found in other database systems. OpenBase pioneered the concept of true
data file portability and change notification across operating environments
and the internet.

Paul Summermatter Chief Engineer and founder of LGS Systems Inc., a medical
systems and solutions company, says, "OpenBase has given us a tremendous
amount of flexibility in distributing cross-platform solutions to our
clients that include NT, Mac, and Unix environments. It has also proven to
be a rock solid 24x7 performer. In the medical field, we can expect no
less."

Aaron Morse, an engineer for Apple says, "OpenBase exhibits a level of
maturity and performance that has added to the success of The Shaper Image
website. As one of the developers of the site, OpenBase has been a pleasure
to work with."

With its industrial-strength, fault-tolerant design, OpenBase continues to
be the choice of organizations that want both the flexibility of innovative
design and the proven reliability of a traditional production environment.

Advanced Features Include:

-- Platform Independence allows databases to move transparently between
operating systems and computer architectures.

-- Internet-Enabled Client/Server Architecture lets you manage distributed
databases across the Internet as easily as across a LAN.

-- Application Notification automatically updates fields when data changes
so users always see current information.

-- Multi-Threaded Architecture processes queries simultaneously so client
applications never have to wait.

-- Variable Record Length Technology removes blank space to make data files
small and compact.

-- Replication Services provide synchronization between OpenBase databases
and with other data sources, enabling local fault-tolerant operations.

-- 100% Native JDBC allows Java based OpenBase applications to run on any
platform or Network Computer that supports Java.

-- 100% Enterprise Objects and WebObjects compatibility allows developers to
use the latest tools to build Yellow-Box applications.

The OpenBase SQL database provides advanced features and graphically based
utilities which make it easy to build database applications. Along with
support for the latest in object-oriented tools, including Enterprise
Objects Framework and WebObjects, OpenBase features nested transaction
processing, application notification, subqueries, views and many other
features. OpenBase also supports KANJI and other 16 bit character sets.
