Hello MSX fans,

Does anyone know how to connect a SNES, a MegaDrive or a PlayStation joypad
to a MSX ?

And how to connect a PC mouse to a MSX ?

Thank you for all those that will answer me !

Sincerely, Philippe ROUX

Hi Philippe,

About those joypads.. I don't know (at least not for sure). The PC
mice I *can* be sure about. No way they're gonna work. MSX uses a
serial non-RS232 protocol which is *not* modulated with the normal
RS232 +/- 27 and +/- 12 Volt.. Unless you use a RS232 on your MSX
together with adapted mouse-routines I don't think you'll ever see a
PC-mouse to work on your MSX.

However... if memory serves right.. MSX-mice were (are) very basic
and simple devices, probably to cut the costs, so it *might* be
possible to remove or replace some components from a PC mouse to get a
MSX-mouse... I don't know. Wouldn't bet on it.

Regards (and succes),

PtB

Hi

I would like to comment on that: There was once a device build by the
Bytewizards which connected a PC serial mouse to the MSX joystick port. And
it worked too! It has been tested once in an MCCM magazine, but I don't know
which issue (somewhere between number 80 and number 90, I believe). But as
my pile of MSXmagazines is not very economical, I doubt I'll ever find that
article again, unless I stumble over it by accident.

Salut Philippe ;-)

The Best is to buy an MSX mouse for Marty / FM Towns or PC88 (in Japan ...)
that's cheap and you can buy completely new stuff in Tokyo. It works
without any modifications.
That's far better than MSX Philips Mouses ... and cheaper ... (about 50
French Francs or 17 guilders)

Bye, bye

Philippe

PS : toujours sur MSX et Amiga ???

THere are made more devices like that. Mirisoft Italy has made one too.
Check their homepage (via my bookmarks e.g.!)

I also heard Sunrise might release such a device in the near future.

The "Nice mouse" device is a crippled version of the Remouse which
was an PC-MOUSE (Microsoft compatible) interface + Infra Red reciver
which made possible to emulate joystick via your remote control.

You can get also Leonardo Padial´s cartridge which features e.g. a
connector
for PS/2 mouse and as far I know serial-PC mouse too.

CIEL developed a hybride of Remouse called Admouse it works approx. the
same
way but I´ve heard that there is less problems with it
(Microsoft/Mousesystems mouses should work fine).

Then we have the interface for PS/2 mouse made in Japan. There is some
user group selling it in Japan.

The interfaces does not require any software as far I know.

Interesting :-)

About the joypads:

The Italian guy (Ivano Sbattini?), who has the Italian msx club sold
once information on how to modify sega mega drive joypads to msx.

GENUINE NETWORK in Japan has made

SS Pad adaptor:You can use Control pad of SegaSaturn at MSX!

That would be great. My MSX mouse is a crime (although it was very
expensive! Dfl. 40,-), and I don't like ordering international (it's slow
and brings a lot of hassle with it).

Maybe MIRI can contact Sunrise if they would like to distribute their device
in the Netherlands? There would surely be a market for it. The ReMouse
device was only available for a few fairs (2 or 3 I think). After then I
haven't been able to find it anymore. And back then 80 guilders was too much
(I still think it's much btw), but now I can afford it and I'd very much
like to buy it.
