Has anyone ever come across a utility that let's one do on the fly
resolution switching, like a macro or menubar thing, or somthing. I hate
having to dig up the monitors control panel and then the options window.

There is a program called ColorSwitch by Ambrosia Software. It is
availible at the major FTP sites I am sure. It is part of the menu
bar, has resoultion change and volume settings.

Actually, this isn't quite right (unless there's some terminology

display, but not the horizontal & vertical resolution (i.e. change from
8-bit to 16-bit, but not from 640x480 to 1024x768). At least, v2.3 works
this way--is there a more recent one?

So, I too would like to know if there's a decent way to change resolutions
on the fly using something other than the Monitors control panel.

Well, in system 7.5 the Monitors control panel allows you to update the
resolution immediately upon closing the control panel.

Actually, the Radius Dynamic Desktop control panel handles resolution
switching on lots of common multisynchs. I have used it on monitors
like the Apple 17 Multiscan, a NEC 16p and a SuperMac 19". It does
bit-depth switching
and resolution switching from a popup, anywhere. Control-option click.
I believe you can get it from the ftp site (ftp.radius.com?)
Hope this helps!
Andora.

I don't remember exactly which version of System 7.1.x I was using,
but I could change resolutions without 7.5 on my PowerBook 520.

You're right! Now that you mention it, I recall that this worked also
with System 7.1.2 that came with my Duo 280c.

I've been using a small $20 shareware monitor resolution switching application
called Monitor Switch. It DOES switch resolutions and not bit depths.

This is true. However, Dynamic Desktop is (I believe) licensed
only for use in conjunction with Radius products. New versions
are posted on the Radius ftp server for the benefit of customers
who wish to update from previous versions (obtained by purchasing
a Radius display or video interface).

The Dynamic Desktop software is provided as one of the "value added"
features which addresses the question "Why should I purchase a Radius
display instead of one from ______ [Sony, Apple, etc.] ?"
