Emulators have been around for years, but the fools on various websites
are giddy at this one, which is reportedly a bit pathetic due to being
JavaScript. :-\

Just download a proper emulator if you want to run old Mac software.

For Mac users there is Basilisk II (which the slower JavaScript version
is based on) or Sheepshaver. Both can run OS 7 to OS 9, and the various
old Mac apps, with better performance and better compatiblity. For
System 6 you can use Mini vMac instead.

For Windoze or Linix users ... well, who really cares, but there is
probably something out there.

I have used Basilisk II for System 7 under Linux and had it mostly work.
Some programs sensitive to colors available (eg games) had issues, which
I suspect were related to 256 color mode emulated under a 24 bit
windowing system.

I'm blanking on the name now, but there was an old commercial product
for Windows for System 6 that was eventually made free. I've tested it,
but not used it much.

Ah, Wikipedia search to the rescue: Executor.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executor_(software)

I'd really be interested in an A/UX emulator, but not enough to buy
Apple hardware to run it on.

executor was awful.

Because my first Unix system was A/UX and I'd like to (a) revisit it and
see how it feels now that I'm ~ 30 years more experienced with Unix, and
(b) mount my A/UX disk images and see if there are any files on there
that I would like to keep but don't have archived in other formats.

I was pretty good about using tar balls to move stuff around and keep it
in cross-system usable format, but disk was tighter then and I may have
not gotten everything.

I don't know anything about it so can't vouch for how good or otherwise
it is, but there is "Shoebill" (hasn't been updated since 2015) which
is an A/UX emulation available for MacOS X 10.8 and the slightly older
0.0.4 version is also available for Windows and Linux.

I'm aware of Shoebill, I didn't get it to work when I last tried.

Elijah

admittedly has not tried recently

Thats just awesome to hear. Going back to those vintage operatings systems is truly a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
