Just wondering. If so, what's your setup and what do you use it for?

I figure in many countries you can't use dial-up anymore.

Kind of missing that sound of dialing in ...

I was using dial-up on my beige PowerMac G3 until it died about four /
five years ago. :-(

There are still a few enthusiasts connecting to the internet via
dial-up or running old bulletin board systems that you can log onto
using a modem.

More than a few enthusiasts. Fidonet is still thriving, although not
on the scale of the internet. Check out www.net.us for more info.

Sorry, not sure how that happened. That should be www.fidonet.us.

Italy, for one, still has a mixed system with copperwires and fiberoptics.
So, technically, you could still call a dial-up service with an analog
modem.

The problem is that all the ISPs have converted to at least ADSL, FTTC and
FTTH, so there are no telephone numbers to call.

Here in New Zealand the copper line connections have are being phased
out, but many places still have them. Households and businesses where
the service is withdrawn can no longer use copper line services and
have to switch over to fibre, 4G / 5G, etc. replacements. The
installation of the fibre cabling and connection box are currently
free, unless you live down a very long driveway or in a rural area.
Phone numbers still exist here, although the number of people bothering
with a home phoneline has dropped rapidly.

There is a lot of copper in the rural areas of the US. Not people are so lucky
to have service like those in the populated areas. Then there is the matter of
the cost of service and the user requirements. Some get by with DSL over
copper lines.

In my area, it's not just copper wire, but early 1950s copper wire. I'm
less than 200 yards from a couple of bundles of beautiful 21st century
fiber, but I fear this will be the last place in the state that actually
gets to use it. So for now it's DSL, and I cringe whenever a major
software update comes along.
