Yesterday the other account was stuck in the same way. This time a relaunch
of Mail.app sufficed. Strange and nasty problem. Anyone experiencing similar
problems? Any permanent solutions except switching to another e-mail client?
(I am considering Thunderbird now).

In the current Mail.App:
Window -> Connection Doctor and once in that window: Show details. You
get to see a log of actual transactions and this may give you a hint of
what is not working.
Thnx JF, but I'll have to wait until it happens again before this may show
anything.

Might be worthwhile to get a reading on it when it's working right; then
you'll have a benchmark to compare to. Then too, you may find out that
it's having problems every time, but most of them not severe enough to
cause the fetch to fail.

Mail corrupts its local cache occasionally. The menu Mailbox -> Rebuild
fixes it. A recent server update at work reduces the occurrences but
there are still cases where it can happen.

I won't see Goolge Groups replies because I must filter them as spam
Thnx Kevin. I will try the rebuild.
