I put Sonoma on my MacBook a week or so ago and the other day when I hooked up my portable disk I got a message that said "TIme Machine is backing up an encrypted disk to an unencrypted disk." I never saw that before. It looks like the backup went okay but should I worry about that message?

Sounds like you orgot to encrypt your Time Machine backups to that
drive. I don't know about you, but *I* would be worried about that,
since anyone could read what's on the backup disk.

Apple enforces full encyption since 14.

Encryption of course.

What do you mean, "enforces"?

Are you "forced" to use encryption even if you don't want it? I don't
think so.

I don't think so either, it did the backup fine, I just got that notice but it still worked.

JR the disks never leave our house so I guess some body could come in and rob them but probably not. I don't remember Time Machine ever asking if I wanted to encrypt them when I set them up with Time Machine.

If they were encrypted, they wouldn't be able to read the data on them.
