I just upgraded to ML, and found out that Kensington's MouseWorks is no
longer usable. I love that mouse (Optical Elite). Is there any sort of
third-party driver for it that will restore the use of all the buttons?

I have no personal experience with it, but USB Overdrive has long been
the most popular third-party input device driver for Macs.

I had a few troubles with OS 10.8 and USB Overdrive but SteerMouse
solved them all.

Have you tried the new 'TrackballWorks 1.1'? - It should work with all
multi-button mice and trackballs except the slimBlade mice/trackballs
also on OS X 10.8. - I use TBW along with my ExpertMouse, ExpertMouse
Pro and Orbit trackballs and have used it with an older 3-button lasermouse.

Here is the page with the full list of available software:

Well, I just installed TrackballWorks 1.1 and rebooted. The panel in
preferences says "No supported Kensington trackball found."

Any suggestions?

Sadly no further suggestions than those already mentioned then about
SteerMouse and/or USB Overdrive - except one... You could send mail to
Kensington incurraging them to update TBW to include the multi-button
mice into TBW.
