And that's going to be the end of the list.

ffmpeg is about the only thing for OSX that can open/convert the .dav and
.264 files from security dvr's.

And it's an afternoon of fun figuring out the command line to do it.

This is one thing where it'll be easier to find a Windows machine, grab one
of their converters, save to avi or whatever and copy it back to the mac.

But ffmpeg and mplayer will do the job, eventually.

I'll give that a try. Various online resources with command line hints.
Could be a trudge figuring it out...

Doesn't recognize the -o option.

Can't seem to find the resources to output .mp4 or .mov.

I installed and ran it from a ramdisk - should I be putting it somewhere
else?

Try these:

ffmpeg -f h264 -i zach.264 zach.avi

mplayer -fps 30 zach.264

The first one should convert the file into avi format (in your case use like
filename.dav instead of zach.264) and the 2nd should just play the file.

Outputting to .avi makes for 'blocks' all over the output clip; but to
.mov works fine.

Thanks for your help and patience.

Many of my friends use iDealshare VideoGo to convert DAV to AVI.

Today, I just have a try and find it really works perfect.

It can convert DAV to AVI, MP4, WMV, MOV, 3GP, FLV, MKV, WTV, DV, RMVB, ASF, WebM, and etc video format.

It even convert DAV to MP3, WAV, M4A audio format.

More exciting, it features editing features like trim, merge, crop, increase audio volume, split, rotate and etc.

Now I like to share this step by step guide here: http://www.idealshare.net/video-converter/convert-dav-to-avi-mp4-mpg.html

Hope it also helps for you.

Why does anyone want to create AVI or WMV file formats in the 21st
century ? Those are not something you convert videos TO, it is what you

I also removed the iSkysoft stuff; it worked poorly if at all, and the
whole operation seemed quite marginal. I asked questions about
functionality and they were always answered by a recommendation to buy
another more expensive package in their line.

Don't know if they'll work in this situation, since I don't know .dav,
but recently emmgumm (emmgunn.com) software has addressed all my
conversion needs. Another all-purpose tool I use is VidConvert:
http://www.reggieashworth.com/vidconvert

Good luck.

Standard media players won't work for DAV files. An easy way to open and play DAV files on Windows PC, just use the official DVR365 Player software, it only works on windows pc. I rarely look at who's sending or from where when I see a new post. My

To convert DAV to AVI, iDealshare DAV Converter is totally free to do this task. To convert DAV to MP4, MOV, WMV etc format, iDealshare VideoGo also helps. You may get both the above mention software from this article https://www.idealshare.net/video-converter/convert-dav-to-avi-mp4-mpg.html
