I was able to reproduce this by making my own 7z file from a WAV file
that I converted from a MP3 with Audacity. I uploaded it to
http://zimage.com/~ant/temp/MP3toWAVsample.7z (38.3 MB). Please try
extracting with mac OS Big Sur v11.4's Archive Utility app and playing
its WAV file.

I just right click on the file in Windows Explorer and its defaults with
the 64-bit 7-Zip program from https://www.7-zip.org. I tried add to
archive manually with its options
(https://justpaste.it/img/69bd8aa11a51f92afa0b0d57ded0a00d.gif). Both
were in my over decade old, updated 64-bit W7 HPE SP1 PC.

Thank you for reproducing it on your end. :) Wow, even Catalina. BTW,
how come you're not on v11.4 for Big Sur?

Ah OK. I was surprised to see Apple added support for *.7z file format
since it never had a third party archive program in this clean Big Sur
installation from the end of 2020. Also, it was a first time I had to
open one in this Mac.

https://anderegg.ca/2020/08/14/what-file-types-does-apples-archive-utility-open
was an interesting read.
https://fileinfo.com/software/apple/archive_utility doesn't even mention
.7z.

I never had problems with zip files. What issues were there?

You're welcome. Just for kicks, I made 7zip compress the same WAV file
into a zip file to retest. No problems even though bigger size.

Ah, understood. :)

It was many years ago and I don't remember, but I do remember having to
use other tools to correctly extract some zip archives some time ago.
