On a previous event which meant having to re-initialising the hard
drive, Disk First Aid produced a Invalid PEOF 50, 2144 in the journal
and then told me it couldn't fix the drive. Any ideas where all the
messages from Disk First Aid is documented?
Any help would be appreciated.

I am not aware of any System 7.5 update to Sad Mac codes. Since codes (I
believe) are generated from ROM, new codes would appear when ROMs are
updated, not when System is updated.
In any case, any code where the first line is what you indicate is usually
a software-related problem, most likely with the System and or Finder. I
have also found it to be the result of corrupted driver and/or partition
map problems that necessitated reformatting the drive to fix.

PEOF means a physical end of file problem. It means that there is a
conflict between the Directory's understanding of where a file ends and
where it actually appears to end (technically a conflict between the PEOF
and the LEOF, or logical end of file). Apple has an entire technical note
on this problem in their Tech Info Library. If DFA can't fix it, Norton
Utilities or MacTools usually can. Otherwise, you may once again be faced
with reformatting the drive.
As far as I know, there is no place where all the error messages from Disk
First Aid are documented. However, most of them correspond to general
system error IDs, of which there are several listings available.

Try zapping the P-RAM and see my followup in "ZAP P-RAM MYTHOLOGY" in
the comp.sys.mac.system newsgroup.
Good luck!
