Kagi vendors can now obtain a 'pre-release' copy of "Register Restorer"
1.0 via this url:

<http://home.att.net/~bhuey/RegisterRestorer.hqx>

Stand by for a formal product announcement and a link to a web page
sometime in the near future. For now, it's in pre-release because the
code seems stable enough to move it out of beta, but the documentation
leaves something to be desired.

What is Register Restorer?

For one thing, it's a code library (a stand-alone code resource,
actually), which allows you launch your customized Kagi "Register" app
from inside your program, with one simple function call.

But what if the customer has trashed your Register app?

This is where Register Restorer really shines. If it can't launch a
copy of the app from disk, it unpacks a new copy to disk, and launches
that. You'll never again lose a sale because a prospective customer
trashed your Register.

What do you get in the download package?

The biggest item (all of 20 kilobytes) is a very simple "Regi->Rsrc"
utility, which packs your copy of Register into a single large resource
and stores it inside one of your project resource files, for automatic
inclusion in your product. Regi->Rsrc also writes the necessary
executable code into your resfork, along with a couple other small
resources. It's a no-brainer. You only need to include the header in
your project, and a single small file of source code for accessor
routines. And of course you do need to study it just a little bit, to
call the accessors correctly. But that's it. It's easy as 1-2-3.

Once again, the url is:

<http://home.att.net/~bhuey/RegisterRestorer.hqx>

It's free, it's painless, and it won't stain your shoes.
