Greetings,

I have a question about Powerbook (2.5") hard disks.
Do the various makes of Powerbook Harddisks have different
physical sizes - so that one has to be concerned about a
hd physically fitting in the computer?

The reason I am asking is that I have a PB100 with a 20MB
(yes, only 20MB) hard disk, I heard that Kiwi Computers
was selling 40MB 2.5" Harddisk for $75.00.
Anyway, we I called and told them that it was for a PB100
they told me that it would not fit (at least people had
problems with them fitting in PB100's).

Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks.

All 2.5" drives are about the same size (by definition), I
think the problem they're refering to here is with finding/
having the right mounting brackets for a particular drive
in a particular powerbook. Check with APS Technologies
for mounting brackets (for once, I don't have there number
handy, it's in the Duo FAQ or any MacUser, MacWeek, MacWorld
though).

Yes, the 2.5" drives come in different thicknesses, principally 17mm and
19mm. It is very tight getting a 19mm drive into a Powerbook 100, although
my partner manages it regularly (I usually decline). Apple has used both
thicknesses in different poewrbooks, sometimes using a 19mm bracket and
filler plate 2mm thick, other times using a 17mm bracket. In the Powerbook
100 the bracket is not affected by drive thickness - but the location of
the mounting holes on the drives varies, so the bracket may need its holes
moved.

Frequently when people badly jam a 19mm into a PB100 it interferes with
the mouse button.
