Just buy any Palm PDA that has a USB cradle, and you should have no
problems syncing it with your Mac. (I'm using a Palm Vx which came with
a serial cradle, and connecting it to my G4 with a Keyspan Dual Serial
USB adapter; works fine with OS X. If you get a PDA with a USB cradle,
it should be even easier.)
The Palm Desktop software allows several people to sync their PalmOS
PDAs on the same computer, using the 'owner name' on each PDA to tell
them apart.
With Mac OS X, if everyone logs in to the Mac using a different name,
it'll put each person's Palm data under his Home directory, where it
can't be accessed by anyone else. If two people use the same login name
on the Mac, they'll be able to see each other's data in Palm Desktop,
but it won't transfer one person's data to the other person's PDA.
(There *might* be ways to cross-sync multiple PDAs, so everyone shares
the same data, but I haven't investigated that possibility.)

Anyway, maybe you shouldn't give up on your Clie just yet. Is it a
serial port issue? I thought I was going to give up on myPalm IIIxe and
its serial cradle. But I, like another respondent to your post, have a
Keyspan USB to Serial adapter, and I've had very good luck. Just
remember to have the latest version of the driver (don't use the CD, go
to the web site) and the latest version of the Palm conduit (from the
web site, once again).
If there are other issues aside from serial ports, I have Palm m500 envy
myself, and I bet that would work!

I wonder what kind of problem you had.
I just got a Clie T415, plugged the USB into my mac, hit the
sync button and voila - asked me the username (upgrading from
existing Palm IIIx) and that was it. Much _much_ easier and
more reliable than the IIIx ever was with the Keyspan USB
adapter.

If you're thinking about getting the Tungsten, you should know that
Palm plans to release the next model soon. Read about the Tungsten W
on Palm's website. It's going to be similar to top of the line
Blackberrys.

If I can just echo this too:
Purchased a Clié SJ-30, downloaded and installed Palm Desktop 4, plugged
in the USB cable, started HotSync on the Clié and it all worked
flawlessly.

I have a Palm m105 and it came with a serial cradle and I bought a serial
to USB adaptor (from Palm). Unfortunately, I have to unplug the USB
cable in between every sync (even if the Mac has been turned off between
times). This was the recommended solution from the Palm website.
Does anyone else have this problem?
