Try out Email Cleaner for Macintosh, it cleans up Emails and NewsGroup posts,
from a badly wrapped mess into neatly wrapped text. And all from one button
click in a small window that Email Cleaner gives you, that floats over all of
your programs. It is "neat and intergrated". It is useful for heavy Email and
NewsGroup users.
Nowhere. There is no such update. It has not been supported for years.

How odd that they should be available from the Apple site then. Can't
remember the link, I think you can find it through Fogcity.com
For a full list of Claris Emailer files on the Apple site go to:

For the Claris Emailer udater from version 2.0 to 2.0v3, go directly to:

Claris Emailer 2.0v3 is the last version. Still works great. Best e-mail
app there is.

Emailer aren't supported anymore since Claris became Filemaker and all
other Claris products went over to Apple. At best, updaters to 2.0v3 is
available since no official version beyond 2.0v3 exists. I can email
them if you need it.

Well. I tried re-installing it, then copying all the data files back.
That worked. But I'll have to do this every 30 days.

That shouldn't be right. I still use Emailer because it's the only one
that can collect AOL emails. And I don't need to reinstall every 30
days.
Have you tried holding down certain keys on starting up Claris Emailer
to force complete rebuilding of all email data? I believe it's
control-option but I could be wrong.

I assume every thirty days because it's a demo copy? If you can't buy a
full copy sometimes just trashing a specific Prefs file reawakes a demo.
Don't know which one you should Trash though, might even be an invisible
(doesn't sound like it if reinstalling gets Emailer going again.)
FWIW, I never really understood everyone's fascination with Claris E-mailer.
It was a good program in its day, and I tried to use it, but it continuously
crashed my PowerMac at work. I tried and tried to resolve the problem, but
never did. I KNOW I'll get flamed for this, but to me Outlook Express is
the best e-mail program money *can't* buy! I use OE 5.0.2, and it is
flawless. I even use it to check my Hotmail accounts. If you don't have
the latest, fastest Mac, OE 4.5 is just as good in my book. I've got
Eudora. I BOUGHT a copy of Eudora Pro in the box, and have upgraded it
every time they post a final upgrade. It just doesn't get the job done - it
just seems "quirky" to me. I receive some HTML messages every day, and,
while Eudora will display them, they aren't formatted right.
Yes, I KNOW Bill Gates & Microsoft are evil... yes, I know we are supposed
to hate them if we love the Mac... but a good program is a good program.
And the price is sure right!
Who says that? I say that... John D. Newsome, on the John Boy & Billy Show.
P.S. If anyone is interested in buying my hard copy of E-mailer 2.0v3,
e-mail me at nu...@hotmail.com and we'll talk. It's just collecting dust on
my shelf.

No, no, no, no, no. Claris E-Mailer 1.1 has the dreaded Y1.999K bug. All
downloaded mail dates, since 1-1-99, are hopelessly screwed up. Unless you
don't care what dates are on your e-mail, 1.1 is not an option.
If you want to stay with Claris E-mailer, you can download the full
version of 2.0 through a link at www.macemail.com. You'll have to pay
about $30 for it, though. Otherwise, check out...

I switched to Outlook Express 5 in November, when I got tired of using Res
Edit to change all my E-mailer dates. It works great, and can convert
E-Mailer 2 files into an Outlook Express files almost flawlessly. Every
once in a while, Microsoft does something right.

Were you using Emailer 1.x? If you were using 2.x then something wasn't
right with yours since my Emailer 2.0v3 always displayed the right date
(except when downloading from AOL, it goes to 194-something)
The AOL issue was fixed months ago.

No, I was indeed using 1.X. When the issue of changing dates became
unbearable, I decided to change. I figured I could download 2.x for $30,
try to find it second hand and pay who knows what, or go with OE 5 for
free. I chose the later.
It looks and acts just like Claris E-mailer 2.0v3 in my limited experience
with it. Just my .02.

My only gripe is that a program with so much potential and room for easy

As to finding it? Both versions are getting more and more rare on the
internet as time goes on. I believe most reputable sites pulled version 1
when the 1999 bug became apparent. I don't think you can download a full
version of 2.0 anywhere on the internet.

You are correct... there is a fix.
Preferences>Defaults tab>UNCHECK senders date/time for received mail
Makes an elegant and simple program viable once again.

I agree... and there are other excellent e-mail programs available but
the fact of the matter is that the original message was asking whether
or not Claris Emailer still worked.
The answer is... yes... quite well despite the fact that it's difficult
to find and no longer supported by Apple.

Funny, Mac OS 8.1 works just fine on my Quadra 840A and my daughter's
Quadra 650. You are right though, 8.x will not run on a 68040 Macintosh.

8.1 still works on 68040s. It's 8.5 and higher that require a Power
Mac.
Anyway, according to Apple, an LCIII can run 7.6.1. You might consider
7.5.5 anyway since it's only a little older and can be downloaded for
free (download 7.5.3 and then the 7.5.5 update).

Correction - The LC III has an '030 processor and can run 7.6.1 with
ease. I'm running it on a Duo 230.

I think I'm seeing a crossed wires somewhere. Quadra 650 and 840av are
both 68040 based Macs. You're sure it's a 8.1 and not 8.0?

Actually, that's OS 8.5 and above that needs PPC. OS 8.1 runs just fine
on my Quadra 610, which sports a 68040 chip sans FPU.
BTW, "sans" == "without"

No, 8.5 and above won't run on a 68040. A 68040, with or without FPU,
will run all Mac OS 7.1 - 8.1 .

I would also suggest installing the maximum amount of RAM your LCIII
will take. I don't know what that would be, off-hand.

Sorry, my original post should have been "You are right though, 8.x will
not run on a "68030" Macintosh. I am sure I'm running 8.1 on both
Quadras. 7.6.1 is as far as you can go on an 68030 machine. The post I
as responding to said you needed a PPC for 8.1.

I don't think an LCIII is an 040. Even if it would run 8.1 it is a bit fat
for that machine. I run 7.6.1 on older 030 Macs and it works with most of
the newer programs.

No.
8.1 needs an '040 processor or better.
The latest OS you can use is 7.6.1, which needs an '020, and you have an
'030.

The biggest thing in 7.6.1 is better stability for PowerMacs, and your
mac isn't a PowerMac.
