Now the monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 900P) is green all the time. I
tried various tricks with the dip switches on the adapter they sent me.
No luck. Also I trashed the preferences for the monitor and the video
card. No luck.
Wondering now if it has to be a hardware problem, like a bad solder. I
heard rumors of such problems with video cards. Can anyone confirm
this?
Anything else I should try. BTW the computer itself is a SuperMac C500
with a 200 MHz 603e processor and a 256K L2 cache.

I think your monitor is fried. Try hooking up a friend's monitor and see if
you're still seeing green. I bet you won't.
