I am reading all sorts of horrible things about how various programs,
drivers, etc. do not work under 10.6.

I am still on 10.4 but that is only because my wife is running 10.5 and
I did not care for it. I never had any problems getting apps to run on
both.

I was waiting for 10.6 to upgrade both machines. Now I am not so sure.
Does anybody have any idea how long this might take to straighten out?

You don't remember similar things happening with the upgrade from 10.4
to 10.5? Mac OS X is a moving target.

Actually, I stuck with 10.4 and my wife's computer came with 10.5, so I
guess I missed that. And, I now recall there were a couple of apps that
did not work at first on 10.5, but it does not seem there were as many
as on 10.6.

You need to research whether the programs *you* use work in SL, not
whether someone on the Internet had a problem!

<http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/> links to a compatibility test tool as well.

Could you be more specific as to which apps you are expecting
problems with? Or which drivers?

For myself, the only concern I've had is with respect to
drivers for a multifunction all-in-one HP printer. It
prints just fine under 10.6, but HP has not released
drivers which will allow me to use the scanner. For that
reason, I've updated one machine to 10.6, but left one
machine in the house on 10.5.

But other than that single thing, every other app I use
has been just fine. And in my experience, *every* OS
update has had issues of one sort or another with HP
printers. (My previous one was going to be my last HP,
but this one was given to me for free...)
